We seem to plagued with flies at the moment, probably due to the fact that it's hot and all the windows are open!
Sat down last night and started flicking through a cookbook Dianne bought on holiday, "Jekka's Herb Cookbook"  and what did I find on page 29 for Basil....

"Basil is a good companion plant; it repels white fly, aphids, tomato hornworms, asparagus beetles and fruit fly, and also, if kept in a pot on your windowsill, flies from your kitchen."

So, having spent money on one of those blue light electric fly killers and tried the yellow sticky sheets from the greenhouse without much success, I put one of my pots of the herb on the windowsill last night, with couple of flies still buzzing about?
This morning, there is not a fly to be seen, so I don't know where they have gone..... but it seems to have worked!
